Faker
Faker! is an addictive local game that brings the thrill of social deduction to your living room, for 3-8 players. Check out 'Faker (Remote)' for a non-local option.
1. The Setup
At the start of the round, every player is assigned a Secret Word from a chosen category (e.g., "Movies" or "Tech"). One player is secretly designated as the Faker.
-
Citizens: See the actual Secret Word.
-
The Faker: Sees only a category hint (e.g., "It's a fruit") but does not know the specific word.
2. The Clue Phase
Following a randomized turn order, each player must provide a one-word clue related to the Secret Word.
-
Citizens must give a clue specific enough to prove they know the word, but vague enough that the Faker can't easily guess it.
-
The Faker must listen to the clues before them and try to provide a word that blends in.
3. The Vote
Once all clues are given, the group discusses and casts a secret vote to identify the Faker.
-
If the group picks a Citizen: The Faker wins immediately.
-
If the group catches the Faker: The game moves to the Last Stand.
4. The Last Stand & Judgment
If caught, the Faker has one final chance to steal the win by guessing the Secret Word.
-
The Faker submits their guess.
-
The Host evaluates the guess, deciding if it is "Close Enough" or "Wrong."
How to Win: Citizens win by catching the Faker and ensuring they fail their final guess. The Faker wins by avoiding detection OR by correctly identifying the Secret Word after being caught.
Verdict
3-8 local or remote players compete to provide the most convincing, or hilariously absurd evidence to close the case.
🏛️ The Verdict: Rules of the Court
1. Join the Jury
Players enter the courtroom using a unique 4-letter Room Code. You can play as a logged-in LinkedUp Member to save permanent XP to your global profile, or enter as a Guest to compete for the session’s high score.
2. The Case is Read
Every round begins with a "Case"—a prompt featuring a missing piece of evidence.
-
Example: "The defendant claims they were late because of a _______."
3. Submit Your Evidence
All players secretly type their best, funniest, or most convincing answer to fill in the blank. Once you hit Submit Evidence, your answer is locked into the court archives and cannot be changed.
4. Review the Exhibits
The Host presents each piece of evidence one by one as "Exhibits". To ensure a fair trial, the jury reviews every submission anonymously before any names are revealed.
5. Cast Your Vote
The jury convenes! You must vote for the piece of evidence you believe is the most "valid" or entertaining.
-
The Golden Rule: You are strictly forbidden from voting for your own evidence.
-
The Goal: Convince the rest of the jury to side with your exhibit.
⚖️ The Sentencing: How to Earn XP
The court rewards both popularity and victory. Your points are calculated securely by the server at the end of every round:
-
The Popular Vote (+10 XP per vote): You earn 10 XP for every single member of the jury who selects your evidence as the best.
-
The Winner’s Bonus (+25 XP): If your evidence receives the most votes in a round (including ties), you are awarded a 25 XP bonus.
-
Permanent Records: If you are a logged-in member, these points are instantly added to your specific "Verdict" ranking and your site-wide LinkedUp global XP.
6. The Verdict & Results
Once the votes are tallied, the winner is crowned for the round. The UI will display the updated session standings, showing who is currently leading the race for Grand Justice.
7. Adjourn or Re-try
The Host has the final say on the court's schedule:
-
Play Another Round: Keeps the current session scores climbing for a new case.
-
Adjourn to Final Scores: Ends the session and officially crowns the Grand Justice.
