Looking for Work
I recently moved back to California, from Washington State. And I am looking for employment. Most of my work experience has been Clerical, and or Customer Service. If anyone has any leads on a position, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you!

Business Opportunities – Next Best Thing to Owning a Business
Imagine being in power of how you make money, being your own boss, and deciding how many hours you want to work or better yet, the amount of days you want to work? How cool would that be? Many of us have been in the market for a long time to understand how a business operates. You worked for enough companies to see how it’s done. You know what is expected of you from the companies you worked for, and most likely took on jobs that you weren’t hire to do. You probably made friends at the companies you worked for and know what their roles were at the job and how to do their jobs too; maybe a little better :). Well guess what, that’s all you need to know in order to run a business.
You're probably saying that I’m making it sound easy but it isn’t when you don’t know what business to start. This is very true; a lot of us don’t start a business because we don’t know what business to start or even if people would be interested in our business. Having customers is the most imperative ingredient to succeed in a business because they are the people paying for a service or product that we are trying to sell. Here’s some good news for people that are willing to take a chance to operate ownership and make big bucks. How many of us heard the term "Business Opportunity", when looking for work these days and completely shut it down when they found it was commission base pay only? A lot of us have. That’s the first impulse we get when we hear no base pay; commission only. We suddenly get a blind eye and deaf ear; I know because I did the same. However, my last experience with a business opportunity made me want to research it.
I wanted to understand what the hype was all about and why so many business opportunities are starting to pop up in my job searches. I’ve always looked at it as being scams to get money out of people but when my admission counsel was so persistent about getting me involve with a business opportunity that she involved herself with, I was confused. I knew this lady was decent and was already making money from her 9 to 5, so why was she trying to get what little money I had, was beyond my curiosity. I attended a presentation with her and met people that were just like me but took a chance and claimed to have brought their income up to a six figure average, after six months to a year. My mind was still not at rest that it was the truth because I really didn’t know these people and if it was a scam or not. When I heard that you would have to go through training to get licenses and pay around $500.00, I started to have more doubt and looked at my counselor as not being a nice person anymore. She knew it and continued to be persistent with me. I still wasn’t buying it and decided to Google the business to hear the voice of the people that took a chance. I read posting from people that were pro’s and con’s about it which still left me confused. What really got me to think out of the box of my own suspicions was one post that I read. It was by a person that was involved with many business opportunities. She apparently does this full time as a living and was experienced. I must say I was very impressed and my mind opened to what she had explained.
Basically, a business opportunity takes work and committed to become successful. Yes, you do have to put up money in order to start up. You need training; you need certifications, and maybe a few licenses. These are your credentials to identify that you know your stuff to be successful. Think about it, if you were to open a business by yourself, you will need to become the expert of your service or product. If you didn’t go to college, you will need to find seminars or workshops that could supersede the amount you would pay for a business opportunity startup. You will also need to be creative with your PR and marketing in order for people to know about your product or service and lastly, you will have to paid the cost to have your product produce or services come to life. Your startup cost for your own business would be a lot more than startup cost for a business opportunity. When you work independently for a business opportunity, you are geared with the education needed and products or services by the company but the reward is that your only cost is the training and credentials to get started. Your only duty is to get out there and represent the products and services but yet, you are still not alone. You have the PR and marketing already there waiting for your customers to lure them in; so the work you do is only 25%. The rewards are higher because you are the runner that will make it work for you. It takes dedication, the hunger to want greater things in life and most important a leadership state of mind; with that you are on your way to success!
One last point and advice I want to give is that you have to do your homework about any business opportunity you hear about before you get involve. As mentioned, I did read the horror post (stories) from some people that got involved with business opportunities and they were completely dissatisfied. The thing is that a lot of business opportunities out there, don’t tell you everything because they fear you will shut them down, and they are right. However, as a person of interest, you have to do your "do diligences" to understand what the business opportunity is trying to do and if it’s something you are cut out for, and willing to do. You have to also look at the startup cost and be critical to see if you can afford it. Make a list of questions and concerns to ask about. Never, sign anything in the very first phase of initiation; you need time to think about everything so do your research and come back with a list of questions to ask the recruiter. Finally, always check with the BBB to ensure they are who they say they are. With these smart tools, you can make a sound decision on a Business Opportunity when one comes your way.
Making the best of your skills
My suggestion is while we are living in a time of uncertainty, we have to influence companies to hire us as a service. In simple terms, become a brand of your skills and push your self out there as a business and not so much as a person looking for long term employment. Look at your self as a company. Think about it, you are an expert in what you did at your previous job. You have what it takes to do the job because you did it for a company. Now, do it, but project your self as a service to the many companies out there that are looking for the kind of skills you have. Right now companies don't want to pay the extra cost to employ people long term because with that comes medical insurance, vacation days and sick days that they have to pay for you as their employee. If you are working as a consultant, they don't have to pay for these things and the good part of it all is that you can ask for a competitive pay that they will most likely be willing to pay because medical, sick days and vacation days are out of the picture for them. You have to start thinking about your self as a business and manage your self as a business.
Another suggestion, look at business opportunity offerings by upcoming companies out there. This is another avenue that can be very profitable. Yes, the company may not offer base pay or salary but the good thing is that if you are passionate about the product or service that you are independently selling for them, you can make a lot of money off of the commission. The most important thing about business opportunities is that you understand fully what they are selling, you have a desire and interest of the product or service and you understand fees involved to get you going as an independent business partner. There's training fees, licensing fees, and reoccurring trainings that you will need to take in order to be your best. A lot of people misconstrue business opportunities as being scams but sometimes they are legitimate companies that don't tell you everything at first.
I was laid off and have been out of work since October 2010 and after understanding what we are faced with and why, I know I have to move forward to become a business owner and brand myself as a expert in my skills until the job market gets strong again.
Good Luck!
